Chastening the Body to Glorify the Nous

‎"You O struggler and imitator of Christ's suffering, fight within yourself, that you may be deemed worthy of tasting His glory. For if we suffer with Him, then we are glorified with Him. The nous is not glorified with Jesus, if the body does not suffer with Christ. He therefore who disdains human glory is deemed worthy of the glory of God and his body is glorified with his soul."  (St. Isaac the Syrian)

The Ineffable Joy of Unceasing Prayer and the Thoughts that lead to Sadness

This is a video of Elder Thaddeus who addresses some of the important themes we have been discussing in the Philokalia Study Group. In particular the link between prayer and guarding the nous. He also begins to speak of the clarity of vision that belongs to one who has purified the nous through prayer and the kind of sadness/depression that can afflict those who are inattentive to their thoughts.

Philokalia Study Group: Nous and Purifying Memories and Recollections

My filthy thoughts have polluted me. Wicked memories pollute my weak soul. Most Holy Virgin save me.

I am full of wounds of sin.
Cure me the wounded and in pain, Most Holy Virgin, and liberate me from wicked memories, thou who didst give birth to the Almighty Word, the only God and Lover of Mankind.
